Welcome Ruby Jones
We're thrilled to be welcoming Ruby Jones to our publishing family, as she shares news of her self-titled debut album, 'The Woman Who Loves You' for Friday 12 November. The title single has been described as, "an anthemic and heaving song, centring on themes of heartbreak and redemption" by Ramona Magazine who have today premiered the track.
'The Woman Who Loves You' follows on from 2019 single release "Make It Out' which was described by Triple J presenter Bryce Mills as, “ Hit me with a soul food type beat. This is beauuuutiful!".
'The Woman Who Loves You' was written by Jones and songwriting partner and former Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes bandmate Jules Pascoe (Husky, Jaala, Jazz Party). The song was written in 2016 from different sides of the globe - the melody was written by Jones in Nashville, Tennessee and the instrumentation was written by Pascoe back in home town, Melbourne.
"My boyfriend and I were visiting Nashville to attend a songwriters week I'd been invited to. At the time I was considering moving there to pursue my songwriting. It was the day we arrived in Nashville that I first heard the demo that would become The Woman who Loves You. I wrote the lyrics and the vocal melody pretty quickly - unsurprisingly a songwriting trip in Nashville was a fairly inspiring space. The title of the song is a reference to my favourite Fleetwood Mac song Silver Springs, one of the most damning and haunting break up songs of all time", says Ruby.
"As soon as I wrote the vocal melody on top of Jules' demo I knew it was a special song. Devastatingly I came to realize that rather than relocating to the States, what I really wanted to do was to come home and record this song, all the songs I'd written. This thought was both terrifying and exciting."
After this realisation Ruby put her overseas relocation plans on hold to head back to Melbourne and write and record with Pascoe. This is where the tracks that make up her debut album came to fruition and found a place on her soon to be released album.
