Stefan Gregory
Stefan Gregory is an award-winning composer whose unusual background in theatre, rock ’n’ roll and mathematics has shaped a distinctive musical voice. His work spans orchestral and electronic music, intimate chamber ensembles, experimental vocals and electric guitars, creating richly textured scores for film, theatre and dance. His score for The Rooster, starring Hugo Weaving and Phoenix Raei, is composed entirely from human voices, winning the 2024 APRA AMCOS Screen Music Award for Best Soundtrack Album and earning a nomination for Feature Film Score of the Year. His other screen work includes The Dig, starring Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan, longlisted for the World Soundtrack Awards People's Choice Award, and the AACTA Award-nominated documentary Otto By Otto.
For theatre, Stefan has composed for many of the world's leading companies, including the National Theatre, Young Vic, Barbican, International Theatre Amsterdam, Schaubühne Berlin, Burgtheater Vienna, Sydney Theatre Company and Belvoir, as well as the Australian Ballet and Queensland Opera. His work has received numerous honours, including an APRA AMCOS Screen Music Award, a Helpmann Award, Sydney Theatre Awards, an OBIE and a Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship. Before composing full-time, he was the guitarist for Faker, whose platinum-selling single "This Heart Attack" earned four ARIA Award nominations. He holds a degree in pure mathematics.
