Grayson Gilmour
Grayson Gilmour is a critically acclaimed New Zealand screen composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist and recording artist, whose solo albums are released by the iconic New Zealand indie label Flying Nun.
A founding member of the post-punk outfit So So Modern, Gilmour first gained international recognition through the band’s extensive touring and its boundary-defying, experimental sound. In parallel, he established a distinctive voice as a screen composer, contributing original music to a wide range of film and media projects.
Gilmour’s debut feature score for The Most Fun You Can Have Dying (2012), directed by Kirstin Marcon, earned Best Score at the New Zealand Film Awards. His score for Shopping (2013), directed by Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland, received a nomination in the same category. He went on to win an APRA Silver Scroll for his work on Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story (2014), directed by Robert Sarkies. Most recently, his original score for the short film Fetch (2021), directed by Samuel James Gill, received the Gold Award for Best Original Score at the Global Independent Film Awards.
In advertising, Gilmour has composed for a broad slate of international campaigns, including work for Apple / Telstra (Australia), McDonald’s (NZ), ON Running (Switzerland), Citizen (Japan), British Telecom (UK), Tokio Marine (Japan), HCF (Japan), Sky TV (NZ), and Rebel Sport (NZ).
