Moonlover

artist

It’s been 4 years since Moonlover’s last album release, Thou Shall Be Free, and his new single ‘Tried To Resist Ya’ off his new album, is something else entirely.

Moonlover is back with ‘Tried To Resist Ya’ a poppy, late night, easy cruiser. It’s 70s sunglasses FM highway cruising, complete with dreamy vibraphone and smooth, sultry sax. It’s for slow dance floors or upbeat lounges and for that wintery night sky dreaming. Mixed by Rob Muinos and mastered by Mikey Young.

'It's my attempt at putting something together in the vein of 'You Really Got A Hold On Me'. But mine turned out like Michael Jackson meets that wobbly Connan Moccasin sound. I hope you enjoy this in the night time cruising through the city streets or bung up that open highway.’

The second single 'Alive' off Moonlover’s second album is a cosmic mix of operatic Roy Orbison and spacey versed out Cocteau twins. Clocking in at 7.00 minutes, the song is an entrancing meditation travelling through an expansive astral world of psychedelic guitars backed by a hypnotic drumbeat.

As Dinh says ’It's a song that lived on my phone for years and years but sometimes I go trawling through my old voice memos, mostly trash but sometimes a little treasure. I couldn't tell you exactly what it's about cos it's like reading an old dusty diary entry. Something about survival but apart from that you'll have to make your own mind up.’

It was recorded in between lockdowns in Melbourne, in an inspired one day session at Rob Muinos’ studios in 2021.

Frontman, Quang Dinh, uprooted to Bungaree in 2021, a small potato farming town in Western Victoria for a year to record his new album ‘Shangri-la.’ The new album is a feast of dreamy romantic pop peppered with jazz horns, woozy vibraphone and glistening keyboard. To be released soon.
