Danny Brown

Releases

Danny Brown has released his long awaited seventh studio album Quaranta via Warp Records.

New single 'Jenn’s Terrific Vacation', feat. Kassa Overall, sees Danny griping with the effects of gentrification, tearing into rising rents for two-bedrooms and new gourmet shops that now litter his hometown’s downtown. The track’s production, by Kassa Overall, reflects the inner turmoil displayed via Danny’s signature off kilter lyricism paired; His potent vocals bounce around the track’s soundscape while frenzied jazz drums break through. 'Jenn’s Terrific Vacation' is another taste of Danny’s momentous Quaranta era.

Quaranta arrives this year as both the spiritual bookend to his breakout album XXX and a meditative follow-up to this year’s critically heralded collaboration album SCARING THE HOES with JPEGMAFIA. Quaranta finds Brown as the most fully realized version of himself. Written during the pandemic lockdowns of 2021, it is autobiographical and personal, in a way seldom heard from the rapper before. The album features masterful and enrapturing production from some of his most trusted collaborators, including DJ and producer SKYWLKR, The Alchemist, Quelle Chris, Paul White and the Bruiser Brigade crew, and lyrical contributions from Bruiser Wolf and MIKE.

Since trailblazing into the hip-hop scene with XXX, released on Fool’s Gold in 2011, Danny Brown has whipped ravers into frenzies across the world, appeared on late night TV, worked with some of the biggest names in music, donned multiple magazine covers. Most recently he’s relocated from his hometown of Detroit to Austin, Texas where he’s living a sober life and tapes his comedy podcast The Danny Brown Show with YMH Studios, featuring guest appearances from friends and co-collaborators like JPEGMAFIA, Hannibal Buress, Adam Ray, Ali Macofsky, Logic, and Code Orange’s Jami Morgan. Over the course of his storied career, Danny has managed to bridge old and new-school rap royalty (collabs from Earl Sweatshirt to Q-Tip to Kendrick Lamar) and linked with the most grailed underground electronic record labels. And most remarkably, he has done all this while remaining inexplicably himself; never veering too far one way or another, or bothering to explain how he maintains balance.

Quaranta by Danny Brown was released Friday, November 17 on Warp Records
